New Jersey drivers ed guide
New Jersey runs every new driver through its Graduated Driver License steps. A teen can begin at 16 only by enrolling with a licensed driving school for 6 instructor hours; from 17, the examination permit needs no school. Anyone issued a permit under 21 on or after February 1, 2025 certifies 50 practice hours. An MVC-approved defensive driving course takes 2 points off once every 5 years and insurers must offer a discount for it, but no course erases a ticket.
